Hello everyone! I'm currently a junior in the Animation program at USC, but I'm discovering that it is not what I want to do. I think my interests and desires are much more suited to the Illustration program at AAU. So I'm thinking of going there for grad school.

Are there any MFAs in Illustration here? If so, what do you like and not like about the program? What have your experiences been? Also, to any general students: are the undergrads and grads' lives much different? I really have no idea what to expect.

Thanks in advance!

Cost of attendance? [25 Oct 2010|09:12pm]

mokhan
[ mood | confused ]

The website says that AAU cost about $740 a credit to attend.
That's cheaper than alot of the schools with similar programs in larger cities like San Fransisco. Most art schools cost about AT LEAST $1000 per credit.

One of the top complaints I read about AAU is the cost.
I mean, that's a complaint with any art school, but it seems to me to be a recurring complaint with AAU.
I understand that the tutition isn't the only concern, but also supplies, lab fees, housing, food and hygiene, miscellaneous expenses have to be taken into consideration as well.

Those are things you'd have to take into consideration no matter where you went to school.
So AAU would still be cheaper than most art schools.

Is there some large expense I'm missing out on?

Or are these people who complain just naive about the cost of attending art school?

Also, I'd imagine since I'm taking care of my liberal arts and humanities right now at another school, AAU would be alot cheaper already.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Animation students? [13 Oct 2010|02:57pm]

I already spoke to a rep, who gave me a very broad answer.
I just wanted to know about the assignments you receive in the Classical Animation and Character animation program.
Are students expected to complete a film each year?

Free Amazon Prime for students [10 Aug 2010|04:12am]

theonlytime
Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Question about a couple of the Masters programs [11 Apr 2010|02:28pm]

newengland32
Hi there. I just wanted to ask some students what they thought of the Multimedia Communications MA and the Motion Pictures and Television MFA.

I'm going to toss out some really generic questions because I'm not sure what exactly to ask, but here goes:

How do you like the Academy of Art University? Where else did you apply? And what do you think of the program? The faculty? The facilities?

Thanks very much,

EDIT (I hope it's allowed):

I thought of a specific question! I have to admit I'm early in my research of Masters programs, and admittedly I haven't worked in film or television professionally before.

If I wanted to work in television down the line, which program would be more suited to preparing me for that field? It looks like Multimedia Communications is journalism/news, whereas the MFA is more Hollywood/fiction. If anyone who did either program could reply with what their career is or intended career is, um, let me know? I realize this sounds really naive but I appreciate the help.

[ mood | excited ]

Rampin' up to start my 2nd semester at AAU and super excited!  If Fall 2009 is anything like last spring (or better!), then I am in for a great term.  Last semester it was Analysis of Form, Figure Drawing, Figure Modeling, and Digital Photography for Artists.  This semester I'm a bit nervous for Color & Design, but all in all, know that I'll learn a whole lot.  Also on the menu this Fall is Still Life Painting I, Introduction to Anatomy and Art History through the 15th Century.

Any tips out there on any of these classes?  I'll gladly offer any tips or fun stuff about the classes I took last term for anyone interested.  I love AAU and hope someday soon to go visit the actual campus...

I am planning on moving to SF this summer and I have already found one roommate to move with me but we are in search for two other roommates who would be willing to share a room to make rent cheaper. We are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in the city. If any of you are interested or know anyone that wants in, please contact me: bklauert@gmail.com

We are both 18, art students, and open-minded.

thank you!

If anyone is interested in taking these, let me know. I'm downtown-ish on Sutter.

Hi, everybody. I hope "hello" posts are allowed. If not, I apologize in advance.

I'm an online student at AAU, in the Graphic Design MFA program. It's my first semester, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Very challenging, and for the most part, the instructors have been great too.

Any other online students around here? Or are most of you on ground? I've been considering giving on ground a go someday, but right now, online is a lot more practical for me.

Nice to meet you all. I'll be around. ♥

Is anyone taking Quality of Light? I will be missing class today, so when I have to go to the studio to get the next assignment done I probably won't know what to do. Can I come with someone when they do their assignment that is due next week?

Online Classes? [16 Sep 2008|09:35am]

megami_tsuki
Hello. I'm looking into going to AAU and saw they offer all classes online. I watched the little video they had on the web site and it looks intersting... As much as I'd love to live and go to school in SF it's one of the most expenceive cities in the US to live in right now and the pirce of tuition and art supplies will kill me, so taking classes online appeals to me.

Anyone on here taking online classes? If so, what are they like compaired to physicaly going into an art class?
